Lifestyle and Work. This is a very important consideration for most men. Do you have a job that involves using your hands in manual labor? Do you come into contact with corrosive chemicals? Do you play contact sports? Many men would just remove their ring for vigorous activities, but if this is a daily issue for you, then you may prefer to select a ring that is up to the challenge. Another important point to note is if you are in risk of catching your ring on anything and having to have it cut off? One drawback to a totally indestructible ring is that they can’t be cut off quickly in the case of an accident. This can be an issue with both aircraft grade titanium and tungsten wedding rings.
Design. There are many ring designs to select from apart from the traditional band. Male wedding rings can be carved, woven, plaited, include stones, or be multi-colored, just for starters. However, many of these wedding rings may not be suitable for daily heavy manual labor. There are many different styles of wedding rings available for men, ranging from the simple and traditional gold band, through to modern metals, highly patterned, and set with stones. Consider your lifestyle, budget, and personal preference, when deciding which ring or even engagement rings are going to be best for both of you.
Also, when you are choosing wedding rings for women, you need to make sure that you have the correct size of the ring. You don’t want to have a ring that is too small for your bride on the big day. Get her finger measured just to be on the safe side and avoid any last-minute rush or embarrassment. Make sure you take your time in deciding what kind of ring you want to buy for your bride. Before buying, speak to her and get an idea of what she likes so that she’s swept off her feet when you present the ring of her dreams to her on your big day!
The Egyptians were the first recorded civilization to use the wedding ring. In Egyptian hieroglyphics a circle represented eternity. Once a woman accepted the ring she became the ”property” of the person who gave it to her and she was in a sense ”his.” The first wedding ring could have been made of braided grass or hay (which would have been changed often), ivory, bone, or leather. Eventually, metal was used, but the first wedding bands were crude and lumpy. However, the sentiment remained the same-eternal commitment and love.
Though at times in ancient Rome there was the custom where the wedding ring was symbolized as the mark of the domination of men over women. It was the representative denoting that the woman who accepts the ring from a man is bound to that man for her life time and she thereon to be treated as his property. This concept of commodification of women is no longer associated with the wedding ring but in its place it has turned into a symbol of love and trust upon each other. Therefore the wedding ring is considered to be a symbol of loving memories these days.
