The Egyptians were the first recorded civilization to use the wedding ring. In Egyptian hieroglyphics a circle represented eternity. Once a woman accepted the ring she became the ”property” of the person who gave it to her and she was in a sense ”his.” The first wedding ring could have been made of braided grass or hay (which would have been changed often), ivory, bone, or leather. Eventually, metal was used, but the first wedding bands were crude and lumpy. However, the sentiment remained the same-eternal commitment and love.
This is generally made up of precious yellow alloy of gold, hardened with copper and Silver or tin and bismuth. Copper, silver, tin or bismuth is used to make the gold more durable and hard. Now a day a trend is that wedding ring can not be made with out platinum or titanium. These are more durable and fashionable too. Platinum with white alloys of gold are demanding by the wedding couples. Slightly yellow ’white’ gold alloys which was used with gold is now replaced with cheaper nickel-gold alloy with a plating of rhodium. This can be cheap than before but it is it is not at all durable and good. Tungsten and titanium can also be used as ring materials.
Wedding rings are important, but it can be easy to forget that engagement rings are just as much a necessary and please part of the process of getting married. After all, they symbolize that you love your partner so much that you are prepared to go the extra mile and be with them for the rest of your life.
