You will be amazed to know that he is not the only male royal without a wedding band. Other than him, his grandfather, Prince Philip who has been married to the queen for 69 years, also doesn’t wear a ring and if you see photo timeline of their marriage, you will notice that he hasn’t for many years. Surprised? Well, don’t be, because men did not wear rings earlier, it was only during World War II that they started wearing rings as a reminder of their family back at home, while they were away fighting for their respective countries. It’s the women who have been wearing rings since the Egyptian times.
Metal. OK, there are more metals to select from than the standard gold ring. Men should consider any other jewelry that they wear, including their watch. Do you have a gold dress watch, or is it stainless steel? Do you want your ring to match? Do you want to match your fiancee’s ring? Do you have skin allergies? Do you like traditional, contemporary, or unique wedding rings? Lastly, what is your budget?
Gemstones. A wedding band is typically a seamless ring without any gemstones and designs, but there is not harm in adding one. A gemstone creates a dainty and delicate design. If you want to include a gemstone, think of how you will place it. Also, if the bride’s ring has a stone, it is not necessary for the grooms ring to sport one; it looks better plain. Speaking of possible gemstone choices, white diamonds are by far the most choice. Amethyst, turquoise, pearls and chocolate diamonds are other favorites for a wedding ring. When you buy a ring with a stone, choose one that has special meaning in your life. It could be a birth stone. Select one that is hard enough to withstand everyday wear.
If you and your betrothed are planning to get married and shopping around at jewelers together, you may want to take a long look at the women’s diamond wedding ring sets. While engagement rings can certainly be purchased individually, selecting a set makes life a little easier. You can physically see ”ahead of time” what the engagement ring and wedding band will look like when worn together. They will also coordinate and fit together perfectly, creating a beautiful and dazzling display on your hand.
The Egyptians were the first recorded civilization to use the wedding ring. In Egyptian hieroglyphics a circle represented eternity. Once a woman accepted the ring she became the ”property” of the person who gave it to her and she was in a sense ”his.” The first wedding ring could have been made of braided grass or hay (which would have been changed often), ivory, bone, or leather. Eventually, metal was used, but the first wedding bands were crude and lumpy. However, the sentiment remained the same-eternal commitment and love.
