Grooms are also shopping around. It was reported that more than one-third (35 percent) purchased at least part of the ring from a nationally-recognized jewelry chain, while 39 percent purchased at least some of the ring at a local or independent jewelry shop. They aren’t heading online, though: only nine percent responded that they bought a ring for their bride from an online retailer.
The Egyptians were the first recorded civilization to use the wedding ring. In Egyptian hieroglyphics a circle represented eternity. Once a woman accepted the ring she became the ”property” of the person who gave it to her and she was in a sense ”his.” The first wedding ring could have been made of braided grass or hay (which would have been changed often), ivory, bone, or leather. Eventually, metal was used, but the first wedding bands were crude and lumpy. However, the sentiment remained the same-eternal commitment and love.
Metal Choice. The three most widely used precious metals are yellow gold, platinum and white gold. Gold has always been the traditional choice, but its yellow undertone makes it a little tricky when it comes to coordinating it with clothing. White gold and platinum, with their silvery-white look are a better option in this regard. White gold is a cheaper alternative to the pricey platinum. When you buy metal bands, make sure you check the jewelry marking.
